Wiyama
How do you pronounce Wiyama?
The correct pronunciation is Wee-ya 'maa
What does Wiyama Mean?
Wiyama is a Native American word that means Creation Medicine. The word medicine, in indigenous cultures, is used to mean personal power or spiritual nature. An individual's medicine pertains to their natural personal affinity to create and bring forth life, nurture and foster love for their children, partner and family, and bring their personal affectation to the tribe or community and the larger world. Every persons personal medicine is completely and uniquely theirs. Subtle or bold, traditional or unconventional, spirited youth or wise sage, we heal the world and are a testimony to the power of the circle of life in all its facets. Wiyama celebrates each unique individual in their genuine ability to exact changes and create miracles wherever they are in their life's journey. As a bi-racial Cherokee/White individual this language speaks clearly to how I walk in my daily life, in my practice of midwifery and in the larger world.
