Normal and Abnormal Newborn Training Module and Workshop Saturday/Sunday September 22-23 2018 Parkersburg WV
Study This workshop is for those students who have signed up for the Appalachian Birth Co-Op Quarterly Training and is the skills extension of the academic portion of the training. This workshop will begin with NRP with Merrily Taylor on Saturday morning, and is required even if you don't need to certify/re-certify as it meets the needs of assessing the normal and abnormal newborn. There will be a break for dinner, then we will reconvene for the lecture portion on Saturday evening. The hands-on portion of the workshop will be on Sunday from 10-6. Please plan to attend for the entire time. There is an option to pay for the training module and the skills workshop separately, but it is less expensive to pay the bundle price. Registration for the training module will close on 7/31/18
You will receive a list of required equipment when you have paid your registration. There will be a materials fee (usually around $20.00) due at the time of the workshop.

Normal Newborn Vitamin K injection Administration of the Eye Ointment Metabolic Screen CCHD Screen Newborn Exam APGAR scoring Ballard Scoring
Abnormal Newborn Birth Injuries Acquiring cord blood/Rh screen Immediate care of the newborn w/ Open Defect (spinal or abdominal) Care of the hypoglycemic baby Care of the hypothermic baby Care of the newborn born through mec. stained fluids. Care of the respiratory challenged baby Care of the infected newborn Obtaining blood sample for hemoglobin/bilirubin/WBC Transport of the newborn from home to hospital
In this workshop, we will thoroughly review the skills for performing routine newborn interventions and the post-birth newborn exam (both HOWS and WHYS), as well as an exploration of how to manage some newborn anomalies and complications. Learning objectives may be signed off on NARM applications.

A NRP workshop for those desiring ONLY the NRP portion of the training. This is a live hands on NRP workshop, designed to instill skill and confidence in perinatal providers who may be attending births in any environment. Perfect for midwives, birth assistants, apprentices, nurses and out-of-hospital emergency providers.
This is the hands on skills portion only. There is a separate online testing component that must be completed prior to the skills workshop. Please follow the instructions in the letter that follows registration for instructions for the online testing portion.
