At Your Service
Homebirth & Waterbirth (including VBAC)
Having your baby at home is probably one of the most intimate experiences you can experience. This trend toward moving birth back into the home has risen significantly in the last few years, and it's not difficult to see why. Homebirth has been shown to be as safe for people experiencing a low risk pregnancy than hospital and birth center births, with the added comfort of your own space, your own things and you calling the shots. The only protocol that occurs in a homebirth is what is agreed upon between the homebirth client and her midwife. The partner, siblings and other family members can be as involved as the birthing client desires. Often times the baby is welcomed into the waiting hands of the partner or even the client themself. No cold rooms, stark lights and strangers involved. You can have as many or few participants as you desire. Homebirth is truly a family affair.
We have the facilities to provide you with all of your prenatal care needs. We provide laboratory testing, dietary counseling, herbal and homeopathic expertise, holistic based support and education, and client driven hands on, heart to heart prenatal care. Your entire family are welcome to participate in every prenatal visit, and home care can be arranged (extra fees may apply).
Many hospitals in and around Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky have an option to use a shower in early labor, and a few may even have an option for a tub during labor, but none currently offer waterbirth as an option. Waterbirth is often referred to as the AhhhhhQUAdural of homebirth. Offering comfort, maneuverability, relaxation and pain relief, more than half of the clients who have birthed with me have had their babies in the water. Waterbirth is not only more comfortable, but baby is born into a warm, comforting, less shocking or traumatic environment. Waterbirth is gentle birth, and clean up is easy too! I can provide rental pools for your use, or you can use your own bathtub or purchased pool.

Childbirth Education
Birthing Naturally is a 4 week childbirth preparation class geared toward busy parents, whose ultimate goal is a normal, natural childbirth. Learn what labor is and how you can navigate it naturally, with less discomfort, anxiety and stress. Learn about comfort measures for late pregnancy, preparing physically, emotionally and spiritually for the ritual of chidbirth, navigate labor and birth with confidence and prepare to breastfeed naturally. Birthing Naturally classes are offered at a discount to homebirth and doula clients. Classes run once every quarter, in different locations around Southeastern Ohio, West Virginia, Western Virginia and Eastern Kentucky.
Independent childbirth education has been shown to offer the best source of evidence based techniques, allowing couples the comfort of knowing that it is their best birth experience, not policies and procedures or ease of care that motivates the educator. Birthing Naturally is taught to homebirthing and facility birthing families side by side. The information is the same, that women's bodies were made to give birth, and when left unhindered, it unfolds magnificantly. Childbirth education classes also offer you a venue to meet other expecting families, explore options together, and create lifelong friendships.

Birth Doula/Monitrice
Not every client is a candidate for homebirth, nor does everyone feel like homebirth is their perfect option. Having a doula at your birth; home, birth center or hospital, means you have your own personal advocate and comfort professional whose solitary purpose is to work with you and the members of the birth team to achieve the safest and most natural birth possible. Every member of our team is doula trained and brings gentle hands and hearts to your home or facility birth. Families who have used a doula for their births have experienced less need for pharmaceutical pain management, greater confidence in their birthing ability, greater satisfaction in their partner's participation and their birth experience over all. The statistics on doulas are amazing. Studies have found that having a doula can greatly help your labor. Those who hire doulas experience a 50% reduction in Caesarean deliveries, 25% shorter labors, a 60% reduction in epidural requests, and a 30% reduction in forceps deliveries. Six weeks after delivery, research has shown that those who hired doulas experienced less anxiety and depression, more confidence with their baby and more satisfaction with their partners.Particularly for people who hope to birth naturally, a doula can be a great assistance. They help you to achieve your birthing plan and to calm your fears. They help to alleviate the burden that is placed on your partner during delivery and to make the birthing process more relaxing and fulfilling for you and your partner.
A monitrice is someone who is trained to perform certain diagnostic skills at home, during labor, before transferring to the hospital or birth center for the actual birth. Sometimes a monitrice is a perfect fit for a mother who wishes to labor at home and go to the hospital for the birth. There are some options for midwifery led prenatal co-care (seeing midwife and physician), so you can benefit from the holistic mindset and dynamic midwifery pregnancy and birth support, but still have your birth managed in a more clinical setting.

Postpartum Doula
A postpartum doula is an experienced perinatal professional who comes to the home of new parents and provides educational, emotional, and physical support in the weeks and months following birth. This allows the new family to rest, bond with her new baby, and smoothly transition into their new role. They are typically trained and experienced in breastfeeding support, instruction in newborn care, meal preparation, light housekeeping & laundry, minor errands, newborn & sibling care, emotional support and information & referrals. Parents who have used the services of a postpartum doula have expressed experiencing less postpartum depression and stress, better and more easily established breastfeeding experiences and an easier transition for the entire family. Postpartum doulas can be hired to work a few hours a day to a few hours a week.
